STFC ROE Visitor Centre and Dark Sky Outreach Programme
Out of and in school events, student and teacher resources, CPD age range 5-19.
The Royal Observatory Edinburgh (ROE) Visitor Centre welcomes school group visits throughout the year, and provides a structured programme of astronomy related presentations and hands-on activities, which link to the curriculum. The ROE Visitor Centre also visits schools throughout the year, and delivers astronomy related presentations and hands-on activities, including portable planetarium. They also deliver CPD workshops, enabling teachers to plan and run observing activities. Visits can be free-standing, or as part of a larger community event. The programme brings Science and Technology Facilities Council science and technology into the classroom with fun, hands-on activities that link the curriculum directly to cutting edge science in relevant and accessible ways. It also connects children with some of the real-life research going on by having science communicators who can engage and inspire, and are directly involved in the process.
